The event held this year at Harrah’s Resort in Tunica, Mississippi, between June 16th to June 20th boasts a guaranteed added prize pool of $75,000 as well as a prize fund of $139,000 based on a full field.

Darren’s team comprises of himself, Brandon Shuff, Stevie Moore and Alternates Jayson Shaw and Billy Thorpe. They will clash heads with Miami’s Corey Duel, Hunter Lombardo and Jose Parcia. A very high standard of play early on in the game between the two Mosconi Cup champions, both achieveing many break and run clearences Throughout the game. The defining moments of the game would come around the 9 -  9 rack mark where some poor rolls and tough shot choices by Dynamite would see Nick able to pull the remaining racks to take the win.

Darren won his first round game against the talented  Jalal Yousef  9 racks to 5 , Dynamite admitted to getting the right rolls when he needed them on such difficult equipment. His next game would be against the young up and coming Chinese player Wang Can, after a back and forth battle with both players taking advantage of the game Darren would break and run his final rack and 8 – 8 to win 9 racks to 8.

Darren commented on his win saying “Wang was a great opponent, very talented with a huge future in the sport”. The victory against Wang Can secured Darren’s place in the last 32 starting tomorrow, the last 32 bracket will be single elimination races to 11 racks.

After a long flight Darren is finally in China and ready to compete in the WPA China 9ball Open. The China open now in its fifth year will be starting tomorrow Thursday 16th of May 2013. The tournament is being held at the  Shanghai Pudong Yuanshen Stadium. The tournament, which is a major ranking event of the World Pool and Billiard Association(WPA), features both a men’s and women’s tournament. The men’s event offers $176,600 in prize money with $40,000 going to the winner. The women’s tournament, which is played at the same time, has $125,600 on offer with $30,000 going to the eventual champion.

Both Reigning Champions Dennis Orcollo and Kelly Fisher will definitely have targets painted on their backs from their peers which happen to be some of the best pool players the world has to offer including our very own Dynamite!

Darren is back in the UK again preparing for the China 9ball Open! He will be practising at his home venue Escape pool bar in Barnsley joining in with the T9B event being held there this weekend. Darren returning from a great result at the super billiard expo where he took first place winning the Kamui straight pool event.

Legends and Champions Tour

Great news for the Legends and Champions March Tour, featuring two time World Champion and two time U.S Open Champion “Dynamite” Darren Appleton and eight time World Champion and Hall of Famer “The Kentucky Colonel” Nick Varner. The Tour has been extended to add two more stops in Colorado. We are especially excited about these additions as we have joined forces with Str8-Shots Darts and Billiards and The Billiard Education Foundation (BEF) This gives us a great opportunity to try and give a little back to the future of the game and many thanks to Samm Diep Vidal of Felt and the BEF and also Kimberly Griffith of Str8-Shots for giving us this opportunity. Part of the proceeds from the weekend in Denver will be going to the BEF and Darren and Nick will be spending some time with the Junior players on Saturday to have a little fun and hold a private clinic for the Junior players.
